Week 3
I received feedback from Mr. Vinod in the week 3 class. I asked
which is better with a line or without a line illustration, and he
said with a line, but you can try to white line color, it looks like
without a line illustration but actually, it's with a
line.

| Fig3.1: add color |
Also, I didn't decide color palette, and it uses a lot of realistic
colors. The art style is pretty clear, but a bit wide. So the
illustrations look disjointed and there is no sense of
unity.
Week 3 - Week 5
So I decided on a color palette. I wanted to create an orangey, WARM color illustration, so I
decided on this one. I also thought it would represent humans well because of the skin
tone and brown color.

Especially, choosing a background is hard because If I use
orange for the background, the pink does not stand out.

Week 5
In week 5, I received feedback from Mr. Vinod. He mentioned there is
no accent color, needs to add the higher key color to most of the
visuals. So I added an accent color, vivid yellow is too strong so I
chose the warm yellow color.

Feedback
Week 2
general feedback: after your started illustrating, towards the end only you do your cover. don't do the cover in the beginning, illustration process.
Week 3
With a line is better, if u want without a line, suggest to black or white outline. you see the color and definition. Using realistic colors. you need to determine color palettes. The art style is pretty clear but it's quite varied. Try to think with a little bit
more conventional.
Week 5
it's probably lacking highlight color, now is a white highlight, but it's the background. So need to be in a higher key. It looks like the dullness entire. Not all, but most of the visuals have some accented color.
Reflections
Experience
Writing 3,000 words was a challenge, but so was choosing the
sentences I wanted to visualize. Many of the scenes were difficult
to draw, and I had to make several changes. I had not decided on a
color palette until Mr. Vinod pointed it out to me this time. After
comparing the first and last visuals, I realized that it is very
important to decide on the colors. I also learned the importance of
accent colors. It was difficult to manage the layers for the visuals
that featured many people. However, I was able to manage my time
well.
Findings
I always end up with the same art style. I wanted to try different
art styles in the future. Also, when I saw the senior's work, I
thought it was very interesting to create visuals for a book with
collages and photographs. I tried to reduce white space as much as
possible, but it was difficult to come up with a suitable background
for the main visual.
Observation
It took a lot of work to place the limited colors well. This is because
many of the drafts I created for this project are complex. I tried
several patterns for each visual to see how well I could render it
using only pink, orange, and brown. But those were exciting
works.

Importance of Book Illustrations
(Maa Illustration on 01/16/2023)
Conveying a message
Illustrations are often found in books for adults because illustrations can help readers to comprehend ideas that are difficult to explain using only written text. The reason for this is that the human brain is able to perceive visual information more quickly. Moreover, visual representation has greater recall value and is held longer in memory than written text.
Drawing Attention
Many popular publishing houses, well-known book series, and famous authors are associated with a distinct logo or a particular style of illustration. The use of illustrations is important to create brand recognition – for a product, a person, a company, or a campaign. Professional illustrators can create images, logos, or symbols which are so well-conceived and well-designed that the audience begins to associate these visuals with the advertiser. This helps in creating brand awareness.
