Major project

Instruction

This research aimed to study the application of universal design on websites and its effectiveness and impact on users.

Week 1

In this week, we got nodule brief and got feedback from miss anis.

I had a rough idea about campaign but Hoi yes is an animation major, but wanted to do a brand extension, so she asked me. I thought her idea and references are interesting.

miss said as a graphic design, individual is better (if idea is branding or campaign), but we can separate our roles

  • We think about everything like the topic purpose and the possible outcomes
  • What is the main purpose
  • what is the aim
  • brand name
  • awareness
  • if people or target audience buy it, they feel happy or?
  • We can expand to do campaigns and animation and some character designs for blind box

suggestion as graphic > it's not only the poster and packaging, need to create more, brand guideline, website etc.

Our idea is Dolls or character base and we need the problem solving
We will finalize idea on Friday, so I think about some ideas

Fig1.1: research

On Sunday, we discussed our idea and pick up some ideas, we also talk about 2d and 3d things because we are not same specializations and I've never created 3d animation or materials. It's best if we can work together, but we decided to choose a story line first.

Finally, we pick up three ideas from all of ideas and we decided to search more references and put details inside, based on feedback we got before.

1: Sweet tooth (sugar addictions)
2: Fostering Long-Term Well-being Through Healthy Sleep Habits
3: The Coffee Frenzy

the topic, the problem, the purpose, the problem statement, and some possible outcomes

Week 2

On Tuesday, we showed our idea and consult with ms anis in the morning, and we got some feedbacks and suggestion ideas

Various ideas for nutrition bars, convenient capsules, and other health-related items were suggested throughout the day. The ideas were shown again in the afternoon, at which time one topic was born: self-care.

The idea is for women  who don't have time to take care of themselves, are busy, and don't know how to take care of themselves. Although the target audience is women, we received feedback that we should also think about how we can promote it to men.

Hoi yee and I decided on the topic and discussed what we should do before Friday at night, what research we should do, what products will include inside, what references we should gather, etc.

On Friday, we think about more deeply idea, and we got feedback from miss anis in night meeting

Fig2.1: idea, research

Our idea is okay but think about:
  • think about USP
  • think of a best way to highlight USP
  • direction
  • the vision and mission
  • objectives
  • problem statement
  • the swot analysis
  • research about the blind people

why we do this project?
and do the packaging design research,
packaging gonna be unique selling point

  • How to present our product to user to highlight our usp
  • How to translate the design into a story.
  • How to express the whole objective of the brand as a story.

Week 3

This week, we showed our proposal progress to miss anis and we talked about our brand color palette and theme on Friday. Also we finalized these

  • Objectives
  • Purpose
  • Problem statement
  • Vision and Mission
  • USP
  • Brand value
  • SWOT ANALYSIS
  • Target Audience

Art direction and outcomes

Fig3.1: target, outcomes

For the color palette, We researched what colors are easier to see by blind people. As a result, we found that blue is a good choice.

However, for those with certain types of color blindness, like tritanopia (blue-yellow blindness), blue might be harder to distinguish, so it’s essential to pair it with contrasting colors like white, yellow, or orange to ensure visibility and accessibility.

Fig3.2: color research

Fig3.3: color test

  • Our main color: Blue
  • One pop color: Yellow

I tried orange instead of yellow, but it turned green.

This is potential color palette

Fig3.7: potential color palette

On Saturday, we decide theme and based on that, we started to find art direction

Week 4

Before consultation, we collect our art direction

Fig4.1: art direction

On Wednesday, we asked Mr. Kamal about our idea and storyline idea. Our current demographic is all abilities but he said it doesn't work in marketing side. It is better to focus on more specific.

Now we have mascot idea but mascot will not work sometimes, it depends on the target market.

Our new demographic: 25-35 Visually Impaired female

Fig4.5: brand name ideas

After decide our brand name, I tested it out, check the typography combination
The words represents our brand > inclusive, serene, elegance

For the typography, we collected based on premiere brand research (website/logo)

Fig4.6: find typography

Fig4.7: put photography

Collected sent idea, and combination, also come up with scent name

Fig4.8: scents idea

Week 5

I created logo sketches and found packaging design references, text size references, website content, social media content, taglines, and brand guidelines.

For me, it was a bit hard to come up with elegant graphic elements
since our themes are ripp
le and water droplet

Fig5.1: logo ideas

Fig5.2: test the font

Fig5.3: test

I tried to draw a simple but meaningful logo design, but I didn't think it was good, so I added some things related to our brand and used an elegant frame. I tested it out some fonts for brand name

Fig5.4: meanings

Fig5.5-5.6: key visuals

Based on feedback, we changed some things.

I need to create packaging design, related our brand theme, concept, and elegant. Must be fit our brand image and can feel, also create good design for normal people (not our demographics)

Fig5.7: feedback

Packaging design make sure:

-elegance

-beauty product

-visually impaired

Graphic element: compile to other things, logo, visual and check

design factor

Fig5.8: key visual with graphic elements

Diffuser: water drop let shape? must be elegant, ex) water drop shape

Week 7 proposal slide

Week 8

After the presentation, we discussed and we decide things to do, I also tried not line art scent illustrations, I tried same art style as brand graphic elements.

It is a bit hard for me to apply line illustrations into packaging.

We also talk about packaging and include emboss texture of it. And confirm the animation and product design.

Include frame, our logo also has frame and it has elegant feeling/

Fig8.1: new packaging design and illustrations

we talked about it and I refer these frame designs

Why frame?
our logo is
also using frame
it looks elegant, tool
make white space, then easy to see and good for demographics, but still good design for normal users

Fig8.2-8.3: references

This color and design are good for our demographics. I compare the proof colors

Fig8.4: blended scents, flame design

Diffuse, mist, roll-on mock up test

Fig8.12-8.13: product and gift box

Based on our product size, I created new mockup sheet and apply design into them.

Fig8.13: cutline

I created new graphic elements and finalized art direction,

Here is the Brand Guideline

Week 9

During this week, I tried to create brand poster based on frame art style (?)
Also we make it a bit 3d, add shadows into flame shape

Fig9.1-9.2: brand poster

Fig9.3-9.4: brand poster

Fig9.5: brand poster

This week, I worked on social media posts. Before that, I created the content details and collected references.

Fig9.6: contents references

Since we will be posting promotional videos for each of the products, I created several posts, not just the usual nine. I also used carousel designs.

I kept the elegant design and made sure to incorporate our brand's graphic elements.

Fig9.7: posts, brand

These are scent posts. I included photography of our scents and used the product shape design because our product design is unique and focuses on inclusivity.

Fig9.8: posts, scent

 Blended scents post
It was a hard to think about layout

Fig9.9: posts, blended scent

Our use, target audience, and self care posts

Week 10

During this week, I work on website, I created wireframe based on website references

Fig10.1: wireframe

I used frame elements to represent our brand identity. This is a simple website, and I will use Figma (prototype) to put all the content onto the homepage. Users will be able to click buttons and jump to each page.

Home page & About Us:

Fig10.2-3: website, home and bout us

Scent page & Online shop

Fig10.4-5: website, scent and shop

Also we discussed packaging and product label, I updated packaging design and create label of product and its layout

Fig10.6-7: product label and packaging layout

Based on the product label references, I try to make them same logo size, it was a bit hard because the product sizes also different,

Fig10.8: references

The front side are logo, ml, and product name. Back side are braille label, ml, and scent name

Week 11

I changed packaging design based on discussion with hoi yee

  • less info & make space in front side
  • compile tgt braille label into one side
  • product description > make some quote?
  • frame make a small
Fig11.1-2: changed (packaging)

I created gift box inside design and packaging, since each of products are 5cm,7cm, and 8 cm so I thought 3cm(inside stand paper?) is good /depth

Arranged so that the product is uniform

Week 12

During this week, I did a test print of a poster and printed actual packaging. Before printing, I adjust the packaging design and check it.

The print shop doesn't have die cut option so I cut by myself

Week 13

I adjusted packaging design and gift box for mock in blender.

Hori yee tried 3d printing a couple of times, and I used clay to fill in the holes where the 3d printing didn't work. She then lent me some acrylic paint, which I practised with and then actually coloured in.

Created compiled? image

Week 14

I printed out the gift box. Initially, I tried printing the gift box on A0 paper with double-sided printing, but none of the three print shops I asked offered that option. So, I adjusted the design slightly to fit A1 paper.

However, they still didn't have the option I needed, so I ended up printing the pieces one by one. I then manually cut them using a die cutter and connected the two sheets (the outside and inside) myself.

I did paint during this week. It's first batch of 3d printing, after the presentation, we will use plastic primer before painting

After I got the 3d product modeling files, I created some product posters.

mock up

Finalized, finish up instagram grid

Hoi yee did social media animation of product and I created social media reel cover, square size one.

Finalized everything, and created 3d modeling

Week 15

Created our foam board and booklet image

how to make it more visible
we can do in a digital form (mockup, product) if u cant do it manually
has to demonstrate the product, use actual product or smtg as sample

for people with troubles using normal packaging
typical problem when we take care of ourselves
how it is different from normal packaging

How to present our product to user to highlight our usp
How to translate the design into a story.

some languages?

Week 4 feedback

From Mr. Kamal

We have to focus on demographics, all abilities are not working/segment

Research premier brand, what font use, body text

mascot reference / If the target is a teenager, the mascot will work but

research customer behavior/psychographic and demographic

what kind of environment do they want

From Miss.Anis

Ripple and raindrop >>> combine both for the logo

It's more fresh than just putting a face on the logo

Need to contrast with the logo font only can decide the body text and heading whether they go well together

The whole concept is there already so how would u indicate elegance, now is the logo / how to brand, guidelines / how to apply

Without a mascot is okay, it is a good objective

Scent packaging makes it attractive. like body works? / Feel inclusive the whole experience

Think of a way to indicate in a subtle way

The whole story must touch elegantly as well

It doesn't fit the overall concept find a way to subtly

Print out one mockup of the scent and the rest present it digitally, choose one favorite one

Exhibition, we can use actually scent

The booth set up: can have a dummy box that is designed from a scent

Our kit product comes with a variety of scents

Difference packaging design or different logo / use highlight color/silhouette illustration / emphasize scent

How do we use design to express to visually impaired people

instead of using a definitive color, maybe on the packaging u can use different logo designs ( identity )

Categorize the scent according to mood

Make the box reflect the scent

have the combination of different scent

Target users, what scent they like, what packaging design they prefer

Ex) Lomantic >>> lavender and rose or something

relaxation night >>> ???

graphic side

Why u choose this / Why did you go with this / Next week is more development logo and branding

about graphic design

Now, it is very minimal, making it more elegant

Week 5 feedback

make the logo more complex instead of just droplet

make the eyeball vertical

logo can be serif so create contrast

now is a bit complicated so drop the custom idea?

if we have time

after fix and solid all of things,

WHY we choose ELEGANT, explain during presentation

less is more

create user journey

and IG timeline, campaign timeline, from launching

cuz it’s not just a brand

(graphic)

packaging design

-elegance

-beauty product

-visually impaired

graphic element: compile to other things, logo, visual and check design factor

if 3d print need to make sure everything worka

2d & 3d think about this > consistency

where to apply our graphic element

next week packaging mock up and some modelings

website & social media contents

merchandise

Week 9 feedback

Considering the target audience and their room spaces, the box might be too large and could lack a place to fit
how about box type
what is elegant?oh i forgot what she say aaout box type
Create a smaller version or reduce the number of products
Reducing the products would be better
Focus on quality rather than quantity.
Keep the remaining time in mind
Use a smaller box and create a “room inside, including some cute or elegant elements stuff
Decide how to showcase it and what to print
Illustrations are already effective in conveying elegance
To show 3D modelings, create product posters, etc
Focus on environmental design.
Maintain a unified elegant concept
The animation will focus on the three products and the box
combination 2d & 3d
Incorporate frames, flowers, and the logo, keep the same,
Showcase the brand identity
Highlight each skill, such as graphic design and animation
