Instructions

Week 1

[FLIP class]

What is a motion graphic?

Motion Graphics means Graphics in Movement.
Motion Graphics =Composition+Animation

video: Caipirinha Recipe Animation

Step 1: Write a Script That Tells a Story.
Step 2: Storyboard While You Brainstorm the Visual Treatment.
Step 3: Take Your Storyboards into Design.
Step 4: Animate the Final Designs.

4 types of Animation:

  • 2Danimation

  • 3D animation

  • Stop motion animation

  • Motion graphics

Types of infographic

Different types of infographics & online tools

In your group, find out the different types of infographics + the kind of information they’re applicable for + an example for each identified type.

Fig1.1: group slide

Pick one free online infographic tool and re-design one poorly constructed infographic poster through your own experimentation with the selected tool

I chose this poster as a poor infographic poster.

The mark of an effective infographic is its ability to make complex information easy to understand and interesting at the same time.

Infographics like this one, though, force the reader to do more not less work in trying to understand the information. The below image is the original poster.

[Practical class]

Recommend 3 Professional Motion Graphics

Personal burnout experience
I failed an audition for a musical instrument once and lost motivation and burnout. I passed the next audition and had a new motivation.

Exercise: 1 Quantity & Visualize data

The information must be presented as is. You are required to arrange the objects with relevant indicators written out with pens to help you visualize the quantity and data.
Quantity (count) your chosen items and arrange the objects into a presentable layout or chart. Take a picture and submit it

Fig2.1: step step

I chose lego blocks for use in stop motion.

Fig2.2: used lego blocks

First, the data was classified and arranged. Shapes were divided 2x6 2x4 2x2 1x6 1x4 1x2 1x2(unique). I also divided by color - purple, orange, yellow, green, and pink
Finally, I gave the total.

Week 2

[FLIP class]

L.A.T.C.H is a method of information organization that consists of these principles:

Location
Alphabet
Time
Category
Hierarchy

Exercise: 2 L.A.T.C.H

Location / Alphabet / Time / Category / Hierarchy

Organize a group of information into a visual poster that combines and utilizes the LATCH principles.
Fig3.1: exercise2 example
I decided to use Pokémon from the island of Ulaula for the poster. I chose six types of Pokémon. https://pokemondb.net/pokedex/game/sun-moon#dex-akala-island

Fig3.2: pokemon
Fig3.3: grass type

From the upper image, we can get the information of L.A.T.C.H except for location. I created a map with grass, water, electricity, fire, ghosts, and rocks, and placed Pokémon on it. Before I started, I cropped out the Pokémon in Photoshop.

Fig3.4: a sketch of the island
Fig3.5: the process of layout

Six Pokémon types were selected. An area suitable for each was incorporated into the island. Careful about Location, Alphabet, Time, Category, Hierarchy

Week 3

[FLIP class]

Miller’s Law (Chunking)

Chunking is a term referring to the process of taking individual pieces of information (chunks) and grouping them into larger units. It is a concept that originates from the field of cognitive psychology. By grouping each piece into a large whole, you can improve the amount of information you can remember.

Reflections

Exercise 1, using Legos, was difficult to put many elements into a single frame (paper) in an understandable way. I had never heard of L.A.T.C.H. before, but they were very familiar to me. The infographic posters are interesting to look at, and I am glad we were able to create them this time. I used Pokémon for the L.A.T.C.H. poster, but there are so many types and varieties that it was difficult to put together.
