Central theme -The theme is what the story is really
about. It’s the main idea or underlying meaning.
Major Theme: An idea that is intertwined and repeated throughout the
whole narrative.

than the previous one.
3. Conflict: The point of highest tension, and the major decisive
turning point for the protagonist.

Task3 Final Project
Place - School, House, Club activity
Character - The girl, her mom, club members
Story - below
Act 1 - Setup
The girl went on the high school tour that she would like to go on. And that time, she went to the club activity performance show and saw the cheerleading club performance. She was impressed, and she decided to join this club when she enrolled in high school. She passed the high school exam and she successfully joined the cheerleading club.
But in reality, it wasn't what the girl expected. This high school cheerleading is famous in this country. She didn't know that this is a strong club and that the practice is soooo tough.
Act 2 - Conflict
She endured rigorous training for the first three months, but one day she finally reached her limits and skipped club activities. The mother was aware of the change in she's mental condition.
"This is the path you have chosen. It’s been only 3 months since you joined the club, do you give up? Then you won't succeed wherever you go. You should take responsibility for what you decide."
After telling her that, she left the room.
And girl thought,
That's exactly what my mom said. The practice is painful, and tears come out. But anyway, this is my own choice. I must take responsibility until the end. And, the experience here should be good in my life. Have a positive mind.
Act 3 – Resolution
Then the next day she rejoined the club activities. Her friends were also worried. At the club meeting that day, it was announced that the members for the summer tournament would be chosen by audition. She decided to give it a try. To be selected as a member, she needed to individual practice hard. And she practiced a lot.
On the day of the audition, she was nervous, but she was able to do it. As a result, A was able to pass the audition. And in the summer competition, her school was able to get a gold prize. She was very happy that her efforts were recognized.
This event gave her great confidence. And she was able to fight her mind and win.
(This story is not a physical fight, but a fight of the mind)

Fig3.2: comics, webtoon
I'm not familiar with how to draw webtoon, so I researched it. There are natural arrangement and unnatural arrangement roles. I drew it with reference to these.
Fig3.3: arrangement
In regular cartoons, the speech bubbles are inside the frame, but in web toons, the pattern is often outside the frame.
Fig3.4: cartoon
There are drafts and lines. After I finished to make drafts, I traced them and colored them.
Fig3.5: sketch 1-6
Fig3.6: sketch 7-12
Fig3.7: sketch 13-18
Fig3.8: no color
Before begin, I planned to draw with black & white. But black & white
is more difficult than color for me. So I changed to color version.
Fig3.9: coloed
I used clocks and calendars to represent the passage of time.
Fig3.10: clocks, calendars
fig3.11: frame
Writing things or people outside the frame gives the work a powerful and three-dimensional effect. I've seen comic like this, so I used it as a reference.
The school buildings, classrooms, uniforms, and costumes were based on
images examined.
Fig3.12: place, uniform
The scenes I wanted to emphasize and the scenes with many words were drawn large.
fig3.13: large screen
I made it a sandwich-like cover.
Fig3.14: covers
I searched how to create a motion comic. It seems that if you convert pdf to png using adobe acrobat, cut out the frame with photoshop and save it, it will become psd. Edit these using after effect.
Fig3.20: photoshop
I decided to cut out and move the audience and the photos further.
Fig3.21: images
Fig3.22: after effect process
Since there were few situations that required sound effects, bgm was used instead.

Reflection
Experience
It was difficult to think about the characters, the development of the story, and the three-acts structures of the story. I had some ideas, but it was difficult to liven up the story from them. And this task, we need to make a motion comic. I tried not to keep the same movement when making it.
Observation
When I was a elementary school student, I've made own story during class. So It's been a while since I did this and it was fun. I used to read comics a lot, but I had never drawn them, so it was difficult. I thought the cartoonist' work was wonderful.
Findings
I used illustrator. This time around, there are more art boards than before, so if I don't think about it before I start, the layer will be complicated. The layers have increased a little and it has become complicated. The next time I use it, I'll try to devise it. And I'm not used to drawing with a pen tablet yet. I also wanted to practice. This task was a good experience and I was able to enjoy.
